Eagles Champions Trophy (ECT) 2025 Guidelines
1. 1. Each team can have a maximum of 6 players for a 9-over match.
2. 2. Three pairs will bat 3 overs each.
3. 3. Three bowlers from each team can bowl a maximum of 2 overs each. It means that every player must bowl a minimum of one over.
4. 4. Each team must complete their 9 overs of bowling within 27 minutes.
5. 5. After 27 minutes, the bowling team will be penalised (Minus 2 runs) for each minute over time. However, each innings must be finished in 30 minutes. So, a maximum (Minus 6 runs) penalty will apply, and the innings will stop, even though the overs are still not finished. The Match referee & committee will decide the results of the match based on the average run.
1st match (7:30pm to 7:57pm) (8pm to 8:27pm)
2nd match (8:30pm to 8:57pm) (9m to 9:27pm)
6. 6. The batting team must send new batters to the crease within 30 seconds of the pair changeover. Otherwise, a (minus 2 runs) penalty will apply.
7. 7. A maximum of 3 fielders (including the bowler) are allowed behind the half crease (bowler's end). This means there is no restriction on the number of fielders in the first half of the field (striking batter's end).
8. 8. A maximum 2 players are allowed on the long boundary.
9. 9. Wicketkeeper is not mandatory.
10. 10. Mankading (run out) is permitted without prior warning. If the bowler completes his bowling action or crosses the crease line and then attempts a Mankad, it will not be considered a run out.
11. 11. Batters get the benefit of the doubt for close run-out calls and Stumpings.
12. 12. NO batter will be run out unless clearly out of the crease. Any close call should favour the batter for run outs and stumpings.
13. 13. The main umpire, in consultation with the leg umpire and third umpire, decides on run-outs and wides, particularly for close calls.
14. 14. Leg umpires confirm:
– Batting side run-outs
– Waist-high no-balls
– Scorers assist with ball counting
15. 15. Runners are not allowed, unless the batter is injured during the match.
16. 16. The opponent captain selects the runner, not the batting team.
17. 17. Any full-toss above waist height = no-ball + free hit (unless batter steps out of the crease (white line) / Stands outside of the batting crease (white line) while hitting the ball. The batter must be clearly visible outside of the batting crease to turn the NO-ball to a legal delivery. In any close call, the batter will get the benefit of the doubt, and it will be NO-ball above waist height full toss ball unless it hits the wicket directly.
18. 18. If fielders are moving or talking during the delivery, it is automatically considered a no-ball—no warning is needed. For a NO-ball to be called, fielders must have changed their fielding positions. For example, if the wicketkeeper moves to the slip position while the bowler is bowling, it will result in a NO-ball. However, taking a couple of steps forward is permissible.
19. 19. Ball bouncing twice or more before reaching the battter’s crease line will be a NO ball.
20. 20. If the ball goes outside the court, it is dead.
21. 21. If the ball goes outside through the straight boundary net, it counts as 5 or 7 runs.
22. 22. Three consecutive dot balls = Batter out. It will be counted as bowler’s wicket.
23. 23. Any leg-side ball hitting nothing (stumps, leg, bat) = wide. (Even if the ball spins from the leg side to the top of the wickets, it will be wide)
24. 24. The same bowler cannot bowl 2 overs to the same pair.
25. 25. A bowler can deliver only 1 bouncer per over. (Below head height and above chest height.)
26. 26. If a bouncer goes over head height = it is Wide + still counted as a bouncer.
27. 27. A second bouncer in the same over = NO ball.
28. 28. A ball hitting between the white tape on the net and the white line on the crease = NOT wide.
29. 29. A ball hitting outside the white tape and white line on the crease = Wide (if the ball pitches on the edge of the off side pitch (the white line) it will not be called a wide. However, if the ball pitches outside the batting area and it is clear to the wicketkeeper and everyone else that the ball is outside the pitch when it reaches the keeper, it will be called a wide ball.
If the ball pitches inside the crease and then turns outside the wide line: (With no wicketkeeper): It is a wide only if the ball passes outside the wide line.
(With a wicketkeeper): The umpire decides based on where the ball is when the keeper collects it. If it is outside the wide line at that moment, it is a wide.
Bowlers will receive the benefit of the doubt for offside wide calls.
30. 30. Chucking is permitted, but players must run (at least three or more steps) and deliver the ball, otherwise it will be a "NO ball".
However, excessively fast deliveries are not allowed, which poses a risk of injuring the batter (Only the tournament committee will decide if the bowler is bowling excessively fast / side arm angle (Malinga style) / or throwing directly at the batter's body). The tournament committee will issue a warning to the bowler to reduce their speed. Following the first warning, the committee will advise the umpires to call it a "No ball (Beamer)" or a dead ball if the delivery remains too fast. (Updated 28/08/25)
31. 31. Fielders are not allowed on the running crease or behind the umpire’s boundary line.
32. 32. Bowlers can place fielders anywhere on the ground as per the fielding guidelines.
33. 33. Batters may position themselves as conveniently as possible once the field is set.
34. 34. If the keeping gloves are placed anywhere on the ground (except behind the batting wicket) and block the ball, the batter will receive 5 runs.
Overall guideline
35. 1. Players may play for another team with the captain's and committee’s approval in special cases.
36. 2. Injured players may be replaced by a tournament / backup player (pre-defined) if both captains agree with the committee's approval.
37. 3. If no agreement, then the playing captain selects a waiting list player (pre-defined), with the committee’s approval.
38. 4. The opposite captain has no say in that case. (Rule 37.3)
39. 5. Captains are responsible for team management and player attendance. The match will not be delayed if the players are not available at the start of the match. The bowling team must start the match with a replacement fielder decided by the Tournament committee, umpires and opposition captains' approval (the replacement fielder cannot bowl). After the 27 minutes the bowling team will get a 2 run penalty (minus 2 runs) for per minute (Rule 5.5), and the game must stop at 8:30PM (first match) 9:30PM (Second match)
40. 6. Captains are responsible for communicating directly with their players. It is the captain's duty to inform players about the match schedule, tournament policies, and behavior guidelines. The tournament committee reserves the right to ban any team from participating if serious rules are violated or if any undesirable situation occurs. In such cases, the tournament fee will be forfeited for those team players and the team will not be allowed to participate in the remaining matches. The opposing team will receive a walkover, or the tournament committee will create a new team from the waiting list or external players.
41. 7. The Committee and the Match referee will resolve new matters and set precedents. The match referee and the tournament committee will decide any new situation rulings, and their decision is final.
42. 8. All umpires follow the same wide-ball standard, explained before the tournament. (Rule 29.29)
43. 9. The umpire's decision is final, but captains may raise concerns after the match to the match referee.
44. 12. Most Spirited Team will be selected by the referee based on Eagles' values.
45. 13. The winning team gets 2 points, the losing team gets 0 points.
46. 14. The top 2 teams go to the final.
47. 15. If teams tie on points after 3 matches, ranking is based on total runs scored.
48. 16. If a match is not completed by 8:30 (first match) or 9:30 (second match), result will be based on average runs per over.
49.17. Catch Out: If batter is caught out, the same striker faces the next ball (Unless it was the end of the over), even if both batters had crossed before the catch was completed. (Updated 28/08/2025)
50.18. Run Out: A batter is run out if the stumps are broken while they are outside their crease with the ball in play. The batter whose crease is closest to the broken stumps is the one out. If both batters are at the same end: The batter closer to the crease is considered safe and the other batter will be run out. (Updated 28/08/2025)
51.19. Ball Hits the Umpire: The ball remains in play if it hits the umpire and deflects. Runs and overthrows still count. It is not automatically a dead ball. It will only count as a dead ball if the ball becomes lodged in the umpire's clothing or equipment / or the umpire deliberately catches or stops the ball to avoid injury. (Updated 28/08/2025)
52. 1. No comments allowed from behind the net or sidelines. The match referee and umpire will warn players, and the team members will not receive the spirited team awards.
53. 2. No holding back the net unless needed by the Media team (for photo purposes).
54. 3. "Bowler line Paise 🤣" type comments are prohibited.
55. 4. No items near/on the net that may cause player injury.
56. 5. Players will get demerit points for any arguments amongst the other players or with the umpires. Any player who attempts to influence the umpire's decision by overreacting or arguing will also receive demerit points. These demerit points will reduce their team's chances of being the Most Spirited team of the tournament. (Updated 28/08/2025)
